What is Hyperhidrosis and how do I treat it?
Hyperhidrosis is excessive sweating caused by a hyperactive nervous system. It is usually unrelated to body temperature or exercise.
There are two types:
- Primary hyperhidrosis - the condition of sweating in particular areas.
- Secondary hyperhidrosis - sweating caused by another medical condition or medication.
Treatment options for this condition include:
- Topical solutions such as clinical strength antiperspirants as a spray/lotion/powder (See: No More Sweat, Carpe),
- Medicated wipes (See: Qbrexza),
- Medications glycopyrrolate and oxybutynin (See: Carpe has a great informational blog review of both medications),
- Iontophoresis (See: Dermadry, Hidroxa), botox, and
- ETS surgery (See: Info on ETS).
Having tried some of these treatments, I decided to stop using products with aluminium and go all natural in managing my hyperhidrosis. Finding clothes that aren't synthetic and don't show sweat has always been a struggle. So I decided to make a solution.
