Sweating in the Office? Add These Sweat Proof Corporate Clothes to Your Wish List NOW

You’re sitting at your desk, hands dripping, wiping them on your clothes hoping they’ll dry and that the waterworks will stop.

//

An important meeting is coming up and you’re eager in anticipation, triggering small pools to form at your armpits. Thankfully you brought a jacket to cover up.

//

It’s a hot day and you chose to wear bottoms that will show everything if you happen to get a sweaty derriere. You decide to skip the coffee today in case that exacerbates any sweating.

Do the scenarios above sound familiar? They’re uncomfortable, to say the least.

When I worked in an office, I purposefully wore clothes that were absorbent so my hands could feel some relief. I also chose patterned clothing that would help sweat marks stay invisible.

What makes clothes good at hiding sweat?

  • Natural fibres.
    These materials breathe and allow your body to cool down compared to synthetic materials like polyester, which can make you instantly feel hot.
    For a garment to be ‘sweat proof’ sometimes a blend of natural and synthetic fibres is actually a fantastic choice. For example, pants that are 100% viscose may show a distinct sweat outline, whereas pants with a blend of viscose and polyester may have a seamless look between the wet and dry parts of the fabric. This is influenced by the weight of the fabric and other factors too, but it's something to be mindful of.
  • Prints.
    Printed clothing helps immensely in hiding sweat marks. I'm talking small busy prints, not large blobs of colour that will do the opposite of hiding sweat.
  • Texture.
    Silky texture can reveal a lot more detail about sweat forming than that of a crepe fabric. In corporate clothing both textures are prominent. Texture combined with print can make a difference to the visibility of sweat.

Thoughts?

Do you have a favourite style from the list? Let me know in the comments.

Don't forget - wearing clothes you're comfortable in increases your confidence. If you struggle with confidence because of hyperhidrosis and clothing limitations, don't underestimate the value of having a sweat proof wardrobe.

Investing in clothing is investing in yourself. (I've said this to my Mum on occasions and she does not agree from a financial viewpoint). But looking at it from a self-confidence perspective, it does make a positive difference and I won't ever back down from that!
